Maxxon® Commercial Multi-Use Acrylic Primer is a high-solids, multipurpose liquid polymer acrylic concrete primer used to prepare concrete, lightweight concrete, and wood subfloors before pouring a Maxxon self-leveling underlayment. As an acrylic concrete primer, it penetrates and seals porous concrete surfaces, increasing bond strength for the overlying underlayment and reducing surface porosity so that adhesives used for finished floor coverings maintain proper open time. It also seals new Maxxon underlayments prior to installation of glue-down finished floor goods.

Yes. Maxxon® Commercial Multi-Use Acrylic Primer is an acrylic latex-based primer formulated specifically for concrete, lightweight concrete, and wood subfloors. Like standard acrylic latex primers for concrete, it penetrates porous surfaces and creates a bonding layer for subsequent coatings. However, unlike general-purpose acrylic latex primers, Maxxon's formula is engineered specifically for compatibility with cementitious and gypsum-based self-leveling underlayments making it the required primer within Maxxon's flooring system specifications.

Applying an acrylic concrete primer before self-leveling underlayment is critical for two reasons: (1) Bond Strength unprimed concrete is porous and can absorb water from the underlayment too quickly, weakening adhesion and causing delamination. Maxxon® Multi-Use Acrylic Primer seals the surface so the underlayment bonds fully and cures correctly.
(2) Open Time primers reduce surface porosity, which allows adhesives used for finished floor goods to maintain proper open time, preventing premature drying that would compromise flooring bond.

Maxxon® Commercial Multi-Use Acrylic Primer is compatible with concrete (poured-in-place, precast, and lightweight concrete), wood subfloor panels, and gypsum underlayments (as a sealer before floor coverings). Maxxon® Commercial Multi-Use Acrylic Primer offers flexible coverage rates depending on the dilution ratio: undiluted it covers 300 sq ft per gallon; at a 1:1 mix ratio (primer to water) it covers 600 sq ft per gallon; at a 4:1 ratio it covers 1,500 sq ft per gallon; and at a 6:1 ratio it covers up to 2,100 sq ft per gallon. Highly porous or absorbent concrete subfloors typically require a less diluted (or undiluted) application to achieve proper sealing and bond. The 5-gallon pail sold at T.W.
